2008 Events

● The first ever local ‘Belfast concert for Peace Day’ at the Oh Yeah Music centre, attended by over 150 people, to raise awareness of the International Day of Peace.  Line up included The Jham Band, Olympic Lifts, Joe Echo, Mary Frances Loughran, Jason Clarke, Kagura, Ten Gallon Hat and The Audiables. The event also featured family friendly activities such as arts/crafts, face painting and a bouncy castle.


● Peace Wall exhibition, a compilation of drawings by children and young people, reflecting what peace meant to them.


● Official launch of the Peace Day Campaign website in Stormont by Gerry Kelly MLA, Junior Minister of the OFMDFM.  In addition, faith-based groups, schools, community and voluntary sector organisations, politicians were informed about the International Day of Peace, and encouraged to join the campaign.


● Production of a number of resources to raise awareness in local communities and engage people in what they can do to celebrate and reflect on peace building.  For example, a ‘Song for Peace’ CD and PR materials for Peace Day were designed by Springboard’s youth groups.
