In 2010 Springboard launched the annual Inspiration Awards which recognises positive role models and their inspiration influence on others.  The Award ceremony usually takes place on the annual observance of UN Peace Day on 21st September, however as Peace Day fell on a Sunday in 2014 the award ceremony took place on Friday 19th September

There were four award categories in 2014:

Tthe Celebrity Inspiration Award was IBF World Super Bantamweight Champion Carl Frampton.  A professional boxer from Tiger’s Bay area of Belfast, Carl’s commitment, passion and skill has seen him move quickly up in the boxing arena.  A local boy, he dedicates a lot of time and hard work to making his dreams come true and become the sporting hero and positive role model he is today.

The Special Inspiration Award was the incomparable Dame Mary Peters DBE RNR. A true ambassador for sport, she has achieved the ultimate: an Olympic Gold Medal and continues to be a driving force behind sport today.

Hosted by Lord Mayor, Councillor Nichola Mallon and compered by sports journalist, Denise Watson the Inspiration Awards saw Carl Frampton and Dame Mary Peters joined by the worthy winners of the Youth Inspiration Award and Community Inspiration Award.

The Youth Inspiration Award recognised a former Springboard participant who has overcome adversity to create a better future and whose story can inspire others.

The Community Inspiration Award was in partnership with Strive NI CIC, recognised an inspirational role model who volunteers/works in community sports and makes a difference to the lives of others.
