On 7 September 2001 the UN Member States adopted a resolution to permanently fix the date of the International Day of Peace to 21st  September.   The resolution declared Peace Day a day of global and ceasefire and non-violence and invited all peoples of the world to commemorate the International Day of Peace, through education and public awareness.  In support Springboard have launched a local Peace Day Campaign.

But in reality what difference does a day make?

After experiencing over 30 years of armed conflict, it makes an enormous difference.  One day to feel safe, one day of almost normality, one day of hope, one day for dialogue, one day for aid……………..one day that might lead to two days.  Our campaign encourages you to locally mark this day of Peace.  Why?

  • To remember and reflect
  • To continue our journey of peace
  • To promote non-violence and encourage others across the world to end hostilities for 24 hours

What can you do? Confirm your support, sign up to our campaign online, organise an event, buy our resources and above all spread the word.  Your support does count.
