Holocaust Memorial Day Northern Ireland workshop coming to Belfast

You can now reserve your place at the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust’s (HMDT) free Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) 2015 workshop taking place at the Crescent Arts Centre in Belfast on 2 October.

The workshop is for anyone interested in marking HMD 2015 and is a great opportunity to discuss plans for events and activities on or around HMD on 27 January next year.

HMD a time for us to pause to remember the millions of people who have been murdered or persecuted during the Holocaust, Nazi Persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda and Darfur. On this day we honour the survivors of these atrocities and challenge ourselves to learn the lessons of their experiences to create a safer, better future.

Next year is an especially important commemoration as it marks both the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and the 20 years since the Genocide in Srebrenica, Bosnia. This has fed into the theme Keep the memory alive, which emphasizes the importance of remembering the experiences of those who suffered through the Holocaust and subsequent genocides while they are still with us.

The Belfast workshop is a great opportunity to get inspiration and guidance for organising an activity around this theme, as well as to network with other organisers in your area. You’ll hear powerful life stories of Holocaust and genocide survivors and participate in thought provoking activities and discussions, exploring the different ways that your audience can engage with HMD.
